Abstract:With the rapid promotion of urbanization construction process, the urban space continues to expand, the large-scale metropolitan areas rise rapidly, the travel distance of the people is increasing, and the contradiction between the motored vehicle traffic and the long-distance quick traffic is increasingly prominent, which restrict the close connectivity of the economy, population and traffic among the metropolitan areas. Plus the land resources and space limitation, the new rapid channel is hard to realize and the existing main trunk roads are hard to meet the rapid integrated development process among the metropolitan areas because of more traffic lights and long elapsed time. Therefore, a new round of urban trunk road upgrading reconstruction projects has been started in many cities. But limited by the engineering investment, surrounding environment and land acquisition, and also hard to realize the standardized urban expressway, the conception of urban expressway is put forward in many cities. Starting from the proposal of urban expressway and the functional orientation, relying on the example of Changsha Tengfei Road Project, the technical essentials of construction significance, application scope, engineering technical standards and cross-sectional layout form are discussed, which provide the reference for the design of the main trunk road upgrading reconstruction in the other cities.
