Abstract:In urban road engineering activities, human subjective initiative can always be seen in engineering design. To make urban road engineering design methods become more scientific and efficient, it is necessary to study and summarize past experiences and lessons learned from the perspective of philosophy. A preliminary understanding of characteristics of engineering design and urban road engineering should be adopted. Then, analyzing and studying them in a philosophical way are necessary. The design method of modern urban road engineering starts from the requirements of the overall structure, functional efficiency and environmental adaptability, and social harmony. At the same time, it also focuses on integration, innovation, rationality, empiricism, sociality, publicity, efficiency and risk of the engineering system. Thus, it inherits the merits, abandons the demerits and develops the traditional designing into an overall design method that is open, dynamic and systematic. A philosophical and methodological research on urban road engineering design will help designers understand a series of important issues such as the essence, source, effectiveness, rationality and growth model of the urban road engineering and the relationship between knowledge and practice of urban road engineering. It also helps them to more consciously grasp and apply systematic concepts, tools and philosophical ways of thinking in the design process.
