Abstract:The one-ditch-two-road intersection is a special case in urban road intersections. Because of large internal space of intersection caused by the separation of ditches, the passing time is long, easily leading to traffic accidents and creating bottlenecks. Taking the intersection of G107 National highway and Xincheng 16th Road as an example, the optimization scheme of plane space for the one-ditch-two-road intersection is studied. The scheme that the box culvert is lengthened and the roads on both sides of the ditch are “bullet-shaped” local rerouting to narrow the intersection is put forward. After the intersection is reconstructed, the traffic distance of east-west vehicles and left-turning vehicles at the intersection is shortened by 38.66% and 39.8%, respectively. The traffic distance of north-south left-turning vehicles at the intersections is shortened by 22.2%. The delay at the east-west entrance of the intersection is significantly reduced, in which the delay at the east entrance is reduced by 25.3% and that at the west entrance is reduced by 18.3%. The overall delay is reduced by 14% at the intersection. This scheme effectively reduces the traffic time at intersection, improves the traffic efficiency, and creates the favorable conditions for the design of expressway bridge spans.
