Abstract:Looking at the current development situation in China, it can be understood that the development speed of urbanization in China is continuously increasing. Under this background, the urban construction work is also proceeding in an orderly manner. During this process, a series of problems emerge, such as hard paving and high development intensity. Especially during the construction of facilities such as roads, roofs and ground surfaces, there is a situation where the underlying surface is overly hardened, which has severely affected the previous hydrological characteristics and natural ecological background of a city. Therefore, the concept of a sponge city is born. A sponge city is a new generation of urban rainwater and flood management concept, which means that the city can function like a sponge to have the good resilience in adapting to environmental changes and responding to natural disasters caused by rainwater, thereby scientifically managing and controlling the rainwater runoff. Yixing City, as the first batch of pilot provincial sponge cities in Jiangsu Province, actively promotes the construction of sponge cities. Taking a police training base in Yixing City as the object of sponge city research and analysis, the analysis and discussion are conducted mainly from the aspects of target index, catchment zoning, sponge facility layout and storage volume calculation in order to provide the ideas and methods for sponge city design in similar fields.
