Abstract:With the development of cities, the waterfront spaces are receiving increasing attention in modern urban development. However, in the current high-density development background, there are the problems inevitably existing in the lack of cultural imprints, similarity of national landscape styles, single and wasteful spatial use functions, contradictions and obstacles in transportation and activity flow lines. Therefore, the overall urban waterfront space needs further spatial optimization and functional integration. Aiming at the existing problems, the strategies and methods for revitalizing the urban waterfront spaces are studied. Taking the construction and renewal of waterfront spaces in Yangpu Riverside Green Belt, the Outer Ring West River and the New Yupu in Shanghai as the examples, the optimization and renewal design methods are proposed, and the design and practice of landscape space renewal for waterfront spaces at different scales are summarized in order to provide the better design methods and references for the landscape renewal design of urban waterfront areas in the future.
