Abstract:When the basic design concept of urban roads is to enhance the efficiency of motor vehicle travel, the urban roads will be continuously widened, which will result in a large number of motor vehicles occupying the traffic space of city. Slow traffic and public spaces will be eroded by motor vehicles, leading to a deterioration of the urban traffic environment and traffic congestion. In the context of sustainable urban development, the design concept of urban roads is now shifting from "large blocks, wide roads" to "small blocks, dense road networks" in China. To validate the applicability of this design concept, the cross-section design characteristics and the post-construction operational effects of urban roads under the "narrow and dense road network" model are analyzed in detail by relying on the layout of road network of Rongdong Area in Xiongan New District, Hebei Province, which can provide a reference for the design of urban roads in the future.
