Abstract:Semi-flexible pavement materials have been proven to exhibit the excellent rutting resistance, but their impacts on other pavement performances when applied in heavy-load pavement structures remain unknown. To explore these impacts, firstly, a slurry is prepared by using semi-flexible grouting material and infused into the base asphalt mixture. After hardening, the specimens are cut by using a cutting machine to observe the infusion effect. Secondly, the design parameter values (compressive resilience modulus) of semi-flexible pavement materials and SMA-13 asphalt mixture are compared and analyzed. Finally, the impacts of different semi-flexible pavement structures on the surface deflection, surface cracking, and base layer service life are analyzed. The results indicate that the infusion effect of semi-flexible grouting material is good, the resilience modulus of semi-flexible pavement materials is greater than that of SMA-13 asphalt mixture at any temperatures, the semi-flexible pavement materials can significantly reduce the surface cracking issues, and the effect is more pronounced when a double-layer semi-flexible pavement material is used.
