Abstract:The adaptive anchored suspension bridge is an innovative suspension bridge, and has the "adaptive" feature that can actively adjust the internal force distribution between the anchorage and the girder. In order to study the economic performance of the adaptive anchored suspension bridge, a simplified cost model of adaptive anchored suspension bridge is established to deduce the computational formulas of material consumption and cost for six main parts of main cable, girder, suspender, bridge pylon, anchorages and foundation, respectively. The results of the economic performance analysis on the adaptive anchored suspension bridge indicate that the economic performance of this bridge type is equivalent to that of the self-anchored suspension bridge when the span is below 300 m. It is recommended that the proportion of the horizontal force borne by the anchor to the main cable be within 20%. When the span is between 300 m and 800 m, the adaptive anchored suspension bridge which the anchorages bear 80% of the horizontal force caused by main cables has an obvious economic advantage, and the cost can be saved by 20%.
