Abstract:With the increasing scarcity of urban construction land and the demands of urban transportation development, the double-deck bridges have gradually become more prevalent in recent years. However, the force-bearing structures of the portal pier of double-deck bridges are complex and differ from the conventional substructures. It is necessary to carry out the in-depth analysis. Based on a domestic engineering example, the force-bearing analysis of the double-deck bridge portal pier structure is conducted by combining the finite element calculations. The proportion of various loads in the internal forces of the columns is listed. The design essentials of the double-deck bridge portal pier are elaborated from several aspects such as the calculated length of the columns, the spacing between the lower-deck bridge supports, and the eccentricity of the upper-deck columns. Finally, the section dimensions are determined and several conclusions are obtained for reference in the design of similar projects in China.
