Abstract:The construction of urban expressways has a significant impact on optimizing the urban road network structure and enhancing the traffic efficiency. To alleviate the traffic congestion in the western area of Fuzhou City, it is urgent to build a new north-south urban expressway. Based on the construction conditions, design principles, functional orientation and other factors, the multiple route schemes are compared to determine the basic alignment. To address land use challenges at the ground level, the solutions such as land replacement, vertically stacked layouts and combined retaining structures in various forms are adopted. Additionally, the small diameter latching type tube curtain advance support is utilized to realize the crossing of ultra-shallow buried tunnel with large section and small clear distance. To date, the southern section of the project has been completed and opened to traffic. The urban expressways built under complex land conditions without planning land reserve for such projects are summarized in order to provide some insights and references for similar projects.
