Abstract:The radial road network is a commonly adopted road network form in big cities, and the interaction between road network development and urban land use changes in stages. Generally, in the early stages of urban growth, the road network passively adapts to the needs of land expansion, but after the radial road network is formed, it has a restrictive impact on the expansion and change of the urban spatial pattern. So the development strategies at different stages of the radial road network are also different. Taking Wuhan as an example, the formation mechanism and phased development characteristics of the radial road network in big cities are analyzed, and the interactive relationship between road network and urban pattern is studied. The focus is on analyzing the problems existing in the urban spatial development, traffic sustainable operation and urban environmental improvement of the radial road network under the circumstances where the radial road network is formed and the city enters the stage of stock development. Based on the experience of Wuhan City, a sustainable development strategies of underground, open, ecological and functional radial road network are proposed.
