Abstract:The composite expansion methods for expressways are increasingly being adopted. Based on the research results of the overall scheme for Guangzhou Airport Expressway Expansion Project, it is necessary to analyze the control factors such as the volume of traffic in the project, the characteristics and demands of traffic flow, the functions each needs to undertake, and the surrounding terrain, features and landscape requirements for the composite expansion method in detail. Finally, whether to adopt the three-dimensional or planar composite expansion method is determined. After the planar composite expansion method method is adopted, the starting and ending points of the project as well as the inner and outer channels need to be connected to the road network respectively in order to realize the fast transitions. Meanwhile, the transition lanes need to be set up at certain intervals and appropriate positions between the inner and outer channels to achieve interconnection and interoperability.
