Abstract:With the continuous development of the functions of highways in urbanized areas, the first-class highways in urbanized areas have become the ones where the contradictions of having a complete range of service targets, high driving speeds and large vehicle speed dispersion are prominently displayed. To enhance the traffic capacity and safety of first-class highways in urbanized areas, a VISSIM simulation experiment design is carried out based on the theoretical spacing calculation between the on-ramp and at-grade intersections. The simulation analyses are respectively conducted for four influencing factors of ramp traffic volume distribution, at-grade intersection turning traffic volume, traffic composition, and the spacing between ramps and at-grade intersection entrances. The vehicle operation characteristics of various combined type road sections from on-ramps to at-grade intersection entrances are analyzed from the perspectives of vehicle operation speed, delay and queuing. And the design suggestions for the spacing between interchange on-ramps and at-grade intersections are put forward.
