Abstract:In order to explore the performance characteristics and pavement performance of high modulus asphalt mixtures, based on an actual project, the experiment research on high modulus asphalt mixtures BBME (Béton Bitumineux à Module élevé) and EME (Enrobé à Module élevé) was carried out. Through the Marshall test, the results show that high modulus asphalt mixtures have the characteristics of high asphalt-aggregate ratio, low void ratio and high saturation compared with the traditional modified asphalt mixtures. By testing the water stability, high-temperature stability and low-temperature crack resistance, it was tested that the high modulus asphalt mixture can achieve a balance between high-temperature and low-temperature performances, and the comprehensive performance far exceeds that of traditional modified asphalt mixtures. Quality inspections are carried out on the on-site construction road sections. The results show that the pavement usage effect is good. The successful application proves that high modulus asphalt mixture is a high-quality road construction material, and is suitable for the upper, middle and lower layers of asphalt pavements on urban roads with high traffic volumes, which is worth widely applying and further promoting in highway engineering in this region.
