Abstract:The continuous flow arterial road project is affected by the service requirements of surrounding areas, and the distance between its entrances and exits is often small. The interwoven traffic in entrance and exit sections is a critical factor affecting the traffic capacity of continuous flow arterial roads. In the current specifications, there is no calculation method for traffic capacity that can fully match this traffic characteristic yet. Therefore, the accurate calculation of the traffic capacity of the interwoven area at the entrances and exits of continuous flow arterial roads and the reasonable control of the distance between entrances and exits are important contents in the design of continuous flow arterial roads. Combined with the North Yanggao Road (Zhouhai Road - Jinhai Road) Reconstruction Project, the traffic capacity of entrance and exit sections in continuous flow arterial roads is analyzed. By simplifying the calculation of traffic capacity in the interwoven section, a simplified computational model correlating interwoven length and traffic capacity is proposed. This model is used to verify the construction scale of the North Yanggao Road (Zhouhai Road - Jinhai Road) Reconstruction Project. The results show that the computational model can simulate the actual traffic operation conditions better. The construction scale determined by these calculations results basically conforms to the actual engineering situation, which can be used to calculate the traffic capacity of continuous flow interwoven areas when the interwoven traffic volume cannot be obtained.
