Abstract:The application effects of polyurethane urea (PUU) as a new modified material in asphalt pavement engineering are studied and discussed. Its feasibility of its substitution for traditional fillers in SMA-13 asphalt mixture is analyzed emphatically. By designing the composite modification schemes with varying proportions of PUU, mineral powder, and lignin fiber, and using the test methods such as Marshall test, wheel tracking test and low-temperature bending test, the key indicators of the high-temperature and low-temperature properties and water stability of the mixture are completely evaluated. The results demonstrate that when PUU replaces the mineral powder, the high-temperature and low-temperature performances and water stability of the mixture meet the standard requirements. However, the PUU content significantly influences the mixture properties. The excessive addition can lead to the degradation of asphalt mixture performance. Therefore, it is recommended to control the PUU content in the practical engineering applications. The suitability of PUU as a filler in asphalt mixtures is verified, which provides the support for the material design and construction of green and environmentally friendly asphalt pavements.
