Abstract:The hinged hollow slab beam bridges were the most widely used bridge type in early bridge construction in China. In recent years, the frequent structural damages have occurred in such bridges due to factors like overloading, construction deviations and structural aging. When the main structure of hinged hollow slab beams suffers severe diseases, the integral beam replacement is the most effective method of treating the diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to study the beam-type schemes for integral beam replacement. Unlike new construction projects, the beam-type selection for integral beam replacement projects requires considering more factors due to the retention of substructures. Taking the replacement of 22 m-span hinged hollow slab beam of Taihe Road Elevated Bridge in S20 Outer Ring Expressway as an example, the beam-type selection principles are summarized. The pre-tensioned rigidly connected hollow slab beams and the double T-beams are compared and selected from multiple perspectives. The research findings can provide reference experience for the integral beam replacement projects.
