Abstract:The calculation method of design earth pressure for integral abutment under temperature rise condition is studied. Four kinds of load combinations considering the coupled effects of temperature and earth pressure are proposed. And a comparative analysis is conducted with three classic earth pressure load effects. The results indicate that the calculation method of earth pressure with soil-structure interaction should be adopted in the design of integral abutment. For medium-span and small-span integral bridges, the earth pressure of abutment under temperature rise condition is far less than the passive earth pressure, and is significantly greater than the static earth pressure. For long-span integral bridges, earth pressure will become the control load of abutment design.
