Abstract:Currently, research on bridge widening mostly focuses on detailed issues at the engineering and technical level such as structural forms and connection methods. There is a lack of targeted research on the widening of riverside bridges. However, the widening project of riverside bridges is affected by various complex factors, such as the hydrological rhythm of rivers, the dynamic changes of riparian water-level fluctuation zones and the soft soil layers. There are the special requirements for the design and construction. Based on the widening node of the elevated bridge for Wanyuan Paper Mill in the Chongqing Wanzhou District Beibin Avenue Widening Project, the overall scheme and bridge connection methods commonly for bridge widening are summarized and concluded. The controlling factors such as the structural characteristics, hydrogeology, land use conditions, traffic organization and load impact of the elevated bridge for Wanyuan Paper Mill are systematically analyzed. The overall scheme and structural details of the bridge widening are reasonably determined. And aiming at the deck continuous structure at the joint of the new and old bridges, the special design is conducted to ensure the smooth completion, opening to traffic and good operation of the project, which also provides a reference for similar riverside bridge widening projects.
