Abstract:Bus stops are an important part of the passenger transport system. Rational design of bus stops can effectively and significantly enhance the travel experiences and travel efficiency of the passengers. Taking the Shanghai Bus Route 71 West Extension Project as an example, and based on the movement laws of pedestrians, a support for designing the medium-capacity bus stops and evaluating the level of service (LOS) is provided. Firstly, the minimum length of the bus stops is obtained by calculating the number of parking spaces for medium-capacity buses. Subsequently, based on the basic graph of pedestrian movement and the speed optimization formula, the modeling and simulation are conducted to analyze the movement speed, density and flow rates of the passengers under the diverse scenarios and states for obtaining the better solutions of scenarios such as channel width. Finally, the LOS of the bus stops is evaluated to give the movement speeds and flow rates of the pedestrians under the different levels of service, which are verified with the design of the Shanghai Bus Route 71 West Extension Project. The pedestrian simulation provides a new method for the scale analysis of medium-capacity bus stops and can provide a reference for the similar projects.
