Abstract:Taking the three-dimensional transportation system in the main city of Chongqing as the research object, the key influencing factors of road traffic planning and design in mountainous cities are systematcially explored. Firstly, the basic concepts and urban structure of mountainous cities are explained and their unique road traffic characteristics are analyzed, including road network system, road network density, road operation, and traffic management. Through the analysis of multiple road physical attribute evaluation indicators such as road network density and road area ratio, the inherent deficiencies and shortcomings of mountainous cities in road network construction and operational efficiency are revealed. In response to the challenges posed by the terrain height difference and the presence of mountains, rivers and lakes in mountainous areas, and based on years of work experience, the strategies and measures ard delved for road network planning and design in terms of "independent network formation, road network separation, road network connectivity, plot opening, and left in and left out". The research results can provide theoretical and practical references for similar urban transportation planning and design.
