Abstract:Aiming at the two major challenges in the reconstruction of old residential areas, such as enhancing drainage capacity and controlling non-point source pollution, taking a reconstruction project of an old residential area in Shanghai as an example, a “quantity and quality dual control” reconstruction scheme is proposed. A comprehensive reconstruction strategy centered on “source reduction” is adopted. For the separation of rainwater and sewage, a rainwater-based rainwater and sewage separation technology is selected for mixed flow points that cannot be separately connected to the pipe network. To enhance drainage capacity, the “inlet-outlet simultaneous operation, slow-release and flow-controlled discharge” process and facilities are used to detain and store peak runoff, realizing the reduction of rainwater runoff peak. In terms of pollution control, the reduction of non-point source pollution is achieved by controlling the initial runoff with severe pollution. After the implementation of the project, under the rainfall events on June 27th and July 18th, the reduction rates of the external discharge peak flow at the outlet were 68.46% and 58.53% respectively, simultaneously and effectively addressing the potential hazard of waterlogging in the residential area confirmed through consultation before the reconstruction due to heavy rainfall.
