Abstract:Combined with the actual urban development of Changsha City with the case study of the Dongfanghong Road Quality Improvement Project, the focus is on the design concepts, elements and approaches for improving the urban road quality, which aims to provide the practical references for the reconstruction of similar urban roads in China. With "integration of elements for improving road quality" as the core, the transformation of four major design concepts is promoted, including the shift in main logic, and seven key elements such as road spatial design and landscape greening configuration are systematically coordinated. Aiming at the problems of Dongfanghong Road such as insufficient public space and low traffic efficiency, the reconstruction is implemented from the dimensions of smart transportation construction, slow-traffic system optimization, landscape collaborative design and small-scale facility configuration to form a full-process scheme covering the upgrade of road functions to the improvement of spatial quality, which not only effectively solves the traffic efficiency and safety issues, but also more deeply implements the concept of “people-oriented”, and can promote the urban renewal across multiple dimensions, providing a practical model for sustainable urban development and helping create urban street spaces that are both vibrant and warm.
