Abstract:Linjiang Bridge is a steel beam concrete single-pylon single-plane cable-stayed bridge. To address traffic congestion at the river-crossing node of the bridge, a feasibility of changing the number of motor vehicle lanes on Linjiang Bridge from 4 to 6 is analyzed and demonstrated. A combined method of literature review, field investigation and structural calculative analysis is adopted for the detailed research from the perspectives of traffic volume survey and analysis, structural stress analysis, heavy vehicle traffic frequency estimation, and traffic organization of adjacent intersections. Through the detailed calculations and demonstrations, it is confirmed that the bridge upgrading and reconstruction scheme is feasible without altering the main structure. It is recommended that the implementation of the bridge reconstruction plan in the next phase be considered in conjunction with factors such as stay cable inspection, medium repair and overhaul of bridge, and traffic organization.
