Abstract:The design treatment scale of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Shandong is 40 000 m3/d. To meet the increasing local demand for wastewater treatment, the WWTP will be expanded by 20 000 m3/d, while the effluent quality of the whole WWTP is upgraded from the Class 1A standard specified in the Discharge Standard for Pollutants from Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (GB 18918—2002) to the Class IV standard (total nitrogen not larger than 10 mg/L) outlined in the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water (GB 3838—2002). The treatment process of "pretreatment + AAO + sedimentation tank + powdered activated carbon adsorption tank + magnetic coagulation sedimentation tank + disc filter + disinfection" is adopted in the expansion section. The process of reconstructed biological system + powdered activated carbon is used in the upgrading section. For sludge treatment, the high-pressure belt continuous dewatering machines are used to reduce the moisture content to below 65%. The average effluent concentrations of CODcr, ammonia nitrogen, TN and TP are 17.8 mg/L, 0.42 mg/L, 8.8 mg/L, and 0.24 mg/L, respectively. The effluent quality is stable and is better than the design standards.
