Abstract:To properly address the NIMBY sensitive issues such as dust diffusion and odor escape during the excavation stage of existing garbage, a canopy system featuring a single-bay support structure (composed of steel structure towers at both ends of the short span of the landfill and the steel cables connecting the towers) is developed and designed through the research and analysis of an old municipal solid waste landfill in a highly sensitive area of southern China. This system integrates a dust-proof net able to be opened and closed, a deodorizing spray device and an information-based control unit, and simultaneously has the functions of dust prevention, deodorization and sight shielding during excavation operations, which effectively achieves the dual intelligent management and control of “dust suppression and deodorization”. The design results can provide the technical reference for garbage excavation projects of similar landfills and enhance the environmental remediation efficiency of landfills located in highly sensitive areas.
