Abstract:Urban roundabouts generally serve the multiple functions such as city gateways, central landscapes and transportation. However, this form of traffic organization has mostly been unable to meet the needs of urban development and the growth of traffic volume. Taking the reconstruction of the East Ring Road Roundabout in Handan City as an example, based on the principles of retaining comprehensive landscape culture, combining short-term and long-term planning, and ensuring traffic system integrity, the central roundabout is compressed, the existing landscape sculptures are retained, and the central roundabout is converted into a signal-controlled intersection. After the reconstruction, both the traffic efficiency at the node and traffic order have been effectively improved.
