Abstract:With the rapid economic development of China, the urban areas continue to expand outward and the urbanization becomes a prevailing trend, in which the process of suburban urbanization has a significant impact on the early-built highways. Such highways generally face problems such as frequent intersections and high traffic participation of non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians, resulting in a substantial decline in traffic capacity. Their original functions and attributes have even been altered, making it difficult to meet the travel demands generated by suburban urbanization. The highway upgrading and reconstruction have thus become the key means to solve the travel predicament in the suburbs. Taking the Changping District Dingsi Road Reconstruction Project as an example, and focusing on the core constraints of the current restricted land use, the design process is sorted out and the scheme research is conducted relatively for the upgrading and reconstruction of highways. The relevant outcomes can provide the effective references for the upgrading and reconstruction design of similar suburban highways in the future.
