Abstract:As the only expressway loop line in the main urban area of Dongguan, the Dongguan Ring Road serves multiple transportation functions. With rapid urban construction and increasing traffic volumes, some sections experience recurrent congestion, necessitating a systematic reconstruction scheme to enhance its operational efficiency and service capacity. Based on the traffic operation conditions and traffic volume projections, the overall reconstruction direction is determined, focusing on the optimization of main and auxiliary road entrances and exits, the cross-section capacity expansion of roads, and the comprehensive reconstruction of interchange nodes. The multiple factors including the improvement of traffic functionality, utilization of existing road resources, traffic management during construction, implementation of traffic safety monitoring systems, and enhancement of road environmental quality are considered as a whole in the design to form an integrated economical and feasible design scheme. The traffic simulation analysis verifies that the proposed reconstruction scheme can effectively alleviate the traffic pressure of the Ring Road, and improve the traffic capacity of road and the conversion efficiency of node. The formed design thought and practical experience can provide the valuable insights for similar urban expressway reconstruction projects and interchange optimizations.
