Abstract:As urban development enters the stage of stock optimization, the scientificity of the urban expressway traffic sign system directly affects road operation efficiency, driving safety and driving experience. Taking the Beijing East Fourth Ring Road Traffic Sign Optimization and Reconstruction Project as an example, the optimization approaches for the expressway traffic sign system in the new era are analyzed. In the project, the traditional function-oriented approach is broken through, the concept “from functional satisfaction to experience upgrading” is determined, and the four major principles of “standardization and norms, clarity and prominence, integration and reduction, and intelligent reservation” are adhered. By means of refined measures such as structural integration and information reconstruction, the problems of outdated standards and information overload of the existing signs are solved. After reconstruction, the number of sign poles is reduced by about 47% and the number of sign panels is decreased by about 40%, forming a replicable and promotable “Beijing Experience” and setting a benchmark for the digital and intelligent transformation of transportation infrastructure.
