Abstract:The permeability coefficient is an important indicator reflecting the water permeability of the soil and is also a key parameter for engineering dewatering, drainage and seepage prevention design. The permeability coefficient of coarse-grained soil can be determined using the constant-head permeability test method in the laboratory. However, the current testing apparatuses have issues such as insufficient water temperature control, low accuracy in water level measurement, non-intuitive operation of metal cylinders, unclear pore sizes of metal plates, improper selection of transition layers, and inefficiencies and inaccuracies in testing. To address the shortcomings of traditional testing devices, research is conducted from the aspects such as meeting the requirements of the test standards, enhancing the automation level of the device, and improving the test accuracy, which provides technical recommendations for future improvements and upgrades of testing apparatuses.
