Abstract:The East Fourth Ring Road is a major express arterial road in the eastern Beijing, connecting multiple east-west expressways and arterial roads in the region. Since the opening of Beijing Chaoyang High-speed Railway Station in 2021, the Shuangxin Bridge and its surrounding roads have experienced recurrent traffic congestion, making it urgent to widen and reconstruct the East Fourth Ring Road. This reconstruction project includes the construction of a diamond interchange at Shuangxin Bridge on the East Fourth Ring Road, the vertical elevation of the main road over a length of 650 m, and the widening of auxiliary roads over 4.5 km. Constrained by saturated traffic, numerous existing pipelines and construction complexity, the traffic diversion is implemented in five phases. The project faces challenges such as oversaturated traffic, diverse engineering specialties, and limited pipeline relocation capacity. Following the "occupy one, replace one" principle, traffic safety facilities are improved, and construction is carried out section by section and step by step, ensuring that existing traffic flows are maintained concurrently with construction activities. The reconstruction and traffic organization schemes can provide a reference for similar projects.
