Abstract:The anti-collision facilities of the bridge piers in a river-crossing bridge over a Class III inland waterway in Shanghai have been severely damaged and the anti-collision performances have drastically declined after seven ship collision accidents, necessitating urgent repair. Through an investigation of the original design documents of the anti-collision facilities, the ship collision events and historical maintenance records, and an analysis of special inspection results, a repair approach is determined such as repairing the inner anti-collision facilities and removing and replacing the outer anti-collision facilities, which not only ensures the energy dissipation effect of the anti-collision facilities, but also avoids the complex over-water construction, thereby saving the engineering costs. Additionally, in response to the issue where the original outer anti-collision facilities could easily cause ship hull rupture, water ingress, or even sinking after collisions, the possible damage to the colliding vessel will be greatly reduced through the optimization of the anti-collision steel casing structure and construction details, as well as the addition of outer buffer rubber fenders. The design research and successful practice of this project can provide references for the repair of similar anti-collision facilities in the future.
