Abstract:Long-span pedestrian landscape bridges in urban waterfront space not only need to fulfill the function of transportation, but also undertake the function of landscape. Generally speaking, it should be light and transparent. Taking the Chuanyang River Bridge in Shanghai as an example, through the multi-scheme comparison and optimization, the design strategy of long-span pedestrian bridge is discussed. In the solicitation of schemes for the Chuanyang River Bridge, three winning schemes are produced, such as suspension bridge, cable-stayed bridge and truss bridge. Each has its own characteristics, but there are also problems such as navigation, obstruction and maintenance. Through the collaborative optimization of architects and bridge engineers, a truss cable-stayed composite modelling of variable?height truss and back cable is adopted at last, achieving a mechanical aesthetic effect as light as a feather, and together with the background arch bridge, forming the landscape image of “bending bow and shooting arrow”. The research result shows that the essential pursuit of long-span pedestrian landscape bridges lies in the deep integration of the structural mechanics beauty and the environment, which requires the collaboration of multiple disciplines and the continuous improvement to create a century-old masterpiece.
