Abstract:As the service life of highways increases, the performance of asphalt and concrete pavements deteriorates significantly. Highway reconstruction and expansion projects are of great significance for ensuring the service level of roads. Relying on a reconstruction project of a first - class highway in the Chaozhou area, a segmented pavement reconstruction system was established, and research on the optimized design of the pavement structure was carried out based on the identification of disease characteristics and the measured traffic volume data. Differential reconstruction schemes were formulated. For the sections where the old road is overlaid, the concept of variable - life design was introduced to fully exploit the bearing capacity of the existing base, effectively reducing the project cost. For the sections where the old road is demolished and rebuilt, an inverted composite pavement structure was adopted. Mechanical calculations and analyses show that this composite structure performs excellently in enhancing the anti - deformation ability, suppressing reflective cracks, and optimizing the drainage performance, and has stronger adaptability to subgrade deformation. The research results can provide a theoretical basis and technical reference for similar highway reconstruction and expansion projects.
