Abstract:Non-motorized traffic is an important carrier for urban green travel and public space. Currently, the non-motorized traffic in China is transitioning from supporting infrastructure to a livelihood project. The international and domestic experience in non-motorized traffic development is sorted out. Taking Shanghai Lingang New Area as an empirical case, several issues including network discontinuities, rough facility construction, insufficient spatial integration, and weak management and operation in the non-motored system are identified. Quality improvement paths are proposed from four aspects of planning guidance, refined construction, spatial integration and long-term management. And the practical application and effect verification are conducted in combination with typical scenarios such as landscape roads, transportation hubs, commercial streets and the periphery of campuses. The research result shows that systematic, refined, and human-centered design strategies can effectively enhance the safety, comfort and convenience of non-motorized traffic, providing a reference for high-quality development of urban non-motorized traffic.
