Abstract:With the accelerated urbanization process, viaducts serve as vital infrastructure for easing traffic congestion. The performance of their drainage systems is closely linked to driving safety and the durability of bridge structures. Frequent waterlogging on urban viaducts during extreme rainfall highlights the urgency of drainage system optimization. By referring to relevant codes for bridges and drainage engineering, the key factors of size and layout quantity of deck drains, pipe diameter and slope of suspended pipes and diameter of vertical pipes affecting the drainage capacity of viaducts are analyzed. Taking Hefei as an example, the minimum design scale of drainage facilities for viaducts with different lane numbers is calculated. The optimization strategies for viaduct drainage on longitudinal grade sections, concave curved sections and superelevation sections are proposed. The research findings can provide a reference for the design, upgrading and reconstruction of drainage systems on urban viaducts.
